Book Donations

Thank you for your generous donations of books that make the Friends of the Cheshire Public Library book sales a success. We are totally dependent on your generosity and you always come through for us. Please consider donating your gently used books for the book sale.

In choosing books to donate, keep in mind that we take:

  • Fiction (hardcover or paperback) published between 2002 and 2009. The exception to this is books by local authors and classic contemporary authors including Woolf, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Updike, Cheever, and Singer, for whom there is no time limit but they must be in good condition.
  • Non-fiction books of Art, Music, History, Philosophy, Health, Humor, Psychology, Religion, Biography, Poetry, Sports, Travel, Cooking, Home and Garden, How-to-Books, Hobbies, etc. These editions may be prior to 2009 if in good condition and relevant to the present time.
  • Children’s books for all ages in good condition.
  • CDs, DVDs, Videos, and books on tape that are in good condition.

Good condition means books have no torn pages, no underlining or highlighting, no marginal comments, and no smells of must or mold. If they have orange or black spots on the page edges, this is a sign of mold and you should discard in your trash.

What we are not able to take are: records, magazines, Reader’s Digest Condensed books, textbooks, library discards, and personally recorded audio and video tapes.

All donations should be placed in the wooden Friends’ box by the copier on the main level of the Cheshire Library.
